Blending the intensity of reality drama with the raw vulnerability and authenticity of autographic documentary, Vida Nueva captures the fragile space between hope and heartbreak as four siblings embark on a journey to the Dominican Republic to reunite with their father upon his release from prison, after nearly 30 years of separation due to his incarceration.
The film follows Reyes siblings Eliana, Max, Christian, and Sebastian as they navigate the emotional rollercoaster of preparing to reunite with their father, Maximo Reyes Sr., after an agonizing 26 years of separation due to his imprisonment in the Dominican Republic. Sentenced in 1997, Maximo Sr.’s absence left a void in their lives, forcing his children to grapple with the challenges of growing up without their beloved father. As his release date approaches, the siblings coordinate their long-awaited reunion in the Dominican Republic. Eliana, a talented actor, producer, and emerging filmmaker, partners with her creative eldest brother Max and friends in the film industry to document their journey, shedding light on the trauma the incarceration left in their lives.
