In her powerful directorial debut, Colombian actor-screenwriter-novelist Patricia Castañeda tells the largely unknown story of women’s suffrage in Colombia through an unflinching lens that follows the uphill battle faced by pioneering activist Esmeralda Arboleda and her peers.

In 1954, a group of women embarked on a battle to bring women’s suffrage to the National Constituent Assembly of Colombia. Through marches, radio appearances, and a brilliant media strategy that placed them on the front pages, they achieved their goal. Even so, Esmeralda Arboleda (played by Julieth Restrepo), one of the country’s first female lawyers, along with other suffragists endured personal attacks from her opponents, but their resilience proved decisive.
