According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, at least 141 journalists and other media workers have been killed in Mexico this century, turning the country into the Western Hemisphere’s most dangerous for journalists. Mexican filmmaker J. Xavier Velasco sheds light on these dangers in his feature film debut, a tropical noir thriller that dives deep into the perilous world of investigative journalism.
Santi Ortiz (Hoze Meléndez), a budding photojournalist in Veracruz, Mexico, sets out on a journey in the relentless pursuit of the truth after his mentor, respected journalist Amanda González (Teresita Sánchez), falls victim to organized crime. Santi takes on her final investigation, putting his own life on the line as he navigates the treacherous terrain and tests the limits of his courage, to uncover a chilling reality that will reshape his fate.
